Zoisite and clinozoisite are minerals that form during the regional metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. In those environments they are found in massive form and as prismatic crystals in veins that cut schists and marbles.

Zoisite occurs in the colors of green, blue to violet and pink to reddish and less often as grey, white or brown. It has a vitreous luster and transparent to translucent crystals. The crystal structure includes long, somewhat prismatic or tabular crystals with a typically dominant pinacoid that the crystal is often flattened against.
