 It is formed from layers of enamel paint that built up over time in old car factories, particularly in Detroit, during the mid-20th century. As cars were hand-spray painted, the excess paint would accumulate and harden in thick layers on the factory floors and equipment.

Over time, these layers were baked repeatedly, creating durable, colorful, and striking patterns that resemble natural agate. Once discarded as industrial waste, Fordite is now cherished for its vibrant swirls and bands of color, often featuring a kaleidoscope of hues like reds, blues, yellows, and metallics.
